Being able to enjoy your backyard or garden is one of the great benefits of being a homeowner. When you take the time to spruce up that space with garden decorations, it makes enjoying that space even better. Garden dcor is to the outside of a home what interior dcor is to the inside of a home. A backyard or garden that has unique and personal touches adds to its livability and adds to the enjoyment of spending time in the space.

So, what does outdoor garden dcor entail? It is comprised of everything from the layout of the yard or garden and major structures within the space, down to the smallest detail, such as a garden statue nestled among the flowers or a wind chime blowing in the wind. Think of it in the same terms as you would think of decorating a room in your home.

The first thing you want to consider when decorating your garden or yard is the basic layout of the space and the large structures that will be included. Do you want a deck or patio? A fence? An above ground or inground pool? How about trees and flower beds? All of these decisions should be considered first because they provide the basis for your garden decorating scheme, in much the same way as the architecture of a room sets the stage for interior dcor.

After you've made those initial decisions, you then want to continue with your decorating scheme by deciding on the types of flowers, bushes and trees you would like to plant, or add if you already have some there. Maybe you want to go with a monochromatic color scheme of flowers in different shades of the same color, or you want to go with a wide variety of colors. Consider the color wheel, just as you would inside. Do you want bold and vibrant reds and yellows to energize you or do you want more relaxing blues and lavenders to look upon when you're enjoying your yard?

Once you've chosen the basic layout and color scheme, then it's time to consider the main pieces that accentuate your space. Just like indoors, these are items such as outdoor furniture, garden benches, a side table that holds a pot of flowers, etc. The type and color of patio umbrella you choose or whether you include a wrought iron garden bench will personalize the space and make it yours.

Finally, as a finishing touch, you can consider the accessories that are placed around your garden, just as you would accessorize in your living room. Items like garden statues, bird feeders, wind chimes, and garden flags can add that extra special touch and create an outdoor garden space that is truly personalized and unique.
